en el caso de que existieran detonaciones o una alta temperatura dentro de la camara... habra algo asi como el sistema que utilizan algunos en gasolina que enfria la mezcla con methanol creo... y hay otro sistema que no se exactamente como funciona que se llama water4gas... no estoy muy seguro la verdad pero he escuchado de algunos que hablan que esto ayudo a reducir detonaciones y el exhaust temp... ahora en diesel pues no se si habra algun sistema que ayude a enfriar mejor... :?:

Thanks for the pics. I've read that the worst enemy is detonation, and that can happen if you don't set your timing right or if intake charge is too hot, that's when you need an intercooler to cool it, but water injection is also a viable option. I suppose that's what you have in the purple arrow, right?

All this talk about turbos is making me consider turboing my Blazer instead of building a new 489 stroker for it. My current 454 is ideal because I have 7.8:1 compression. Was it too expensive to make that "seat of the pants" kit you built?

Actually pre-detonation is NOT an issue when turboing a diesel as it would be with a gasoline engine. Remember with a diesel there is NO combustible mixture in the cylinder until the injector opens and injects the diesel at which time it immediately ignites. A gasoline engine, even a fuel injected engine can suffer from pre-ignition as it is the spark, not the time of injection that is supposed to set off combustion. Also gasoline burns much faster than diesel.

Turboing a gasoline engine will not give the same power increase as a diesel simply because you MUST maintain the air/fuel ratio for the gasoline engine to run. A diesel runs on a variable air/fuel ratio. As you work a diesel the air/fuel ratio goes up but if you don't have the oxygen to burn that extra diesel then it goes out the back as black smoke and wasted fuel just like all the buses around town (not to mention the excess temperatures in the combustion chambers)! Put on a turbo to burn that extra fuel and you get extra power!!

The purple arrow is the turbo boost gage. It's there mostly for setup at first and then to ensure that the wastegate is working smoothly and not sticking closed. No worries about pre-detonation.

The "seat of the pant's" kit is quite cheap to do if you can fab up an exhaust manifold to carry the turbo.

The benefits of a turbo application vary with the engine. The GM 6.2/6.5 may be 15% but the AXT kit in my Toyota 3B is closer to 30% improvement!!



I think the "seat of the pants" kit in the FJ55 with the 3B is even better than that. At least that's what it feels like when you drive it!

An intercooler is helpful only if the air coming out of the intercooler is significantly cooler than the entering air. If the intercooler is mounted on top of the engine and without sufficent cooling or air flow it may not be a benefit at all!

Que interesante todo lo que han puesto mucha, hasta me imagine los pistones fundiendose :D :D


Ahora en gasolina, la mayoria empiezan como a las 3000rpm. Para el uso que le damos seria de mucha utilidad que entrara desde unas 800rpm. Hay alguna manera de hacer que el turbo entre desde tan bajas revs??? Poniendolo en un motor stock con sus pistones de alta. Que pasaria ya cuando uno va a altas rpm, 5000+???

Me gustaria para el vitara con unas sus 5-7psi para no gastar mucho el motor :D :D :twisted:

Eso lo podés controlar al escoge el tamaño del turbo que pongás. Ponés un turbo grandote y los gases del escape se tardan mucho en hacerlo funcionar (turbo lag), pero pones uno adecuado y funciona bien. Son básicamente 3 parámetros los que hay que controlar a la hora de escoger: lo que llaman A/R, que es la proporción del tubo del caracol con el diámetro en ese punto específico, el tamaño de la turbina del lado caliente, y el tamaño de la turbina del lado del aire. El problema es que hay miles de combinaciones y por eso cuesta atinarle si uno no tiene experiencia.
